US Government Cuts Down Support For 1.9 Million Nigerians Living With HIV Over Stand On Gays Rights

The United States government has strategically and slowly scaled  down support for over 1.9 million people in Nigeria living with HIV. Due to the Federal Governments refusal to acknowledge and recognize the rights of the LGBT community in Nigeria,which has  forced them to stay hidden from society as a result of the penalties installed against them.

95 percent of people living with HIV in Nigeria are heavily dependent on Anti retro-viral  drugs provided by the United States Government.

As was revealed by Rep Afe Olowookere; during his presentation in Abuja as a representative for the Committee on HIV/AIDS, he said;
Presently, the US government has reduced it's services in the remaining 737 Local Government Areas. "In addition, the US government has also withdrawn support for laboratory services which people living with HIV( PLWHIV)  need to be tested constantly so as to know the status of their health.
It is estimated that people living with the virus in Nigeria, number about 3,200,000 and about 2,592, 000 are  currently prescribed on the Anti retroviral drugs. It was also disclosed that treatment for a patient annually cost N110,000 but has been subsidized by the government to about N31,243 per year.

The Appropriation committee headed by Abdulmumin Jibrin, are not backing out on efforts to assist NACA to ensure that this set back stablizes.
