Unmarried Couples Receive 8 Lashes Each Publicly For Spending Time Together Alone.

This incident allegedly occured today March the 1st, at Indonesia. Two couples, yet unmarried and aged 21 and 19 respectively, were publicly canned 8 strokes  each.

Crime: Spending time together alone, which is against the law in that Muslim geographical area.  They were both whipped with a specially modified rattan cane,  in front of a cheering crowd by a hooded man at the Banda Aceh Mosque.

As reported by AP, A total of 18 people were publicly lashed on the stage next to the mosque but their individual offenses where not disclosed. 6 young men were also severely canned for drinking alcoholic beverage. The were given 40 lashes each for breaking the laws of islam while partying.

Aceh is a well known region which adheres to the strict practice of  Islamic Sharia law. They started to imbibe the law practically in 2001 since they were given autonomy by the Jakarta Central Government as a result of political imbalance in that country.
