Ndifreke Joseph Clement 22 said he could no longer live in the mental torment that has haunted him since the alledged event took place, so he decided to turn himself in to the police authorities. On August 2015, His 23 year old cousin Ubong Edet's throat was slit after an argument ensued between them, due to Edet's affair with his girlfriend.
He also claimed that his cousin was abusive towards his girlfriend, and forced her into having sex with him. He got furious and reacted violently on realizing that his girl friend was weeping and had traces of blood on her nostril and mouth.
He said:
“When I asked him why he did what he did to my girlfriend, he started punching me and I retaliated. We fought for a very long time before I could subdue him. I then picked my cow-butchering knife and cut his throat, carried his dead body and dumped it in the bush very close to the house and threw the knife into the pit toilet. I have brought myself to the police even when nobody knew that I killed him. I have come to plead for forgiveness because since I killed my cousin, I no longer have peace of mind. I am always disturbed in my mind and dream.”The public relations officer for Akwa Ibom state police PPRO, ASP Cordelia Nwawe made it known that the suspect would follow due process and be charged to court when due.
